Key findings
- Gloucester County has the highest sheriff sale rate in New Jersey: 43.6 scheduled sales per 100,000 residents, compared with 19.3 across the 16 counties we count.
- Camden County has the most scheduled sales by count (197), but at 36.9 per 100,000 residents its rate is lower than Gloucester's.
- Bergen County has the lowest rate, at 8.4 scheduled sales per 100,000 residents.
- 1,509 sheriff sales were scheduled across 16 New Jersey counties as of October 5, 2026, and 854 of them had a sale date within the next 30 days.
- 58% of the 240 listings we sampled had already been adjourned at least once, which is why the date on a sale list is often not the final date.
- Scheduled sales were up 44 (3%) from September 24, 2026.
- 95% of scheduled sales were brought by banks, mortgage servicers or loan trustees; the rest by condominium and homeowners associations, tax lien holders and others.

Methodology
Sales data. Aggregated from each county sheriff's public foreclosure sale listing on CivilView (salesweb.civilview.com), read once per county on the date shown. Counts are of scheduled sheriff sales, not completed sales; listings change daily and sales are frequently adjourned. No names, street addresses or sheriff numbers are stored or published.
Population. U.S. Census Bureau, Population Estimates Program, Vintage 2024 county population estimates (July 1, 2024), file co-est2024-alldata.csv (source file). Rates divide each county's scheduled sales by its population and multiply by 100,000. The statewide rate uses the combined population of the 16 counties counted (7,825,337 residents).
Adjournments. Read from the status history of a systematic sample of listings in each county (240 in total), so treat county figures as rough indicators.
Not counted. Mercer (publishes its sheriff sale list outside CivilView); Ocean (publishes its sheriff sale list outside CivilView); Somerset (publishes its sheriff sale list outside CivilView); Sussex (publishes its sheriff sale list outside CivilView); Warren (publishes its sheriff sale list outside CivilView).
What this is not. Scheduled sales are not completed sales, and a count says nothing about any individual household. We never publish names, street addresses, sheriff numbers or docket numbers.
If your home is on a sale list
You generally have more options and more time than the notice suggests. Find your date, see how far adjournments can move it, and learn which options still fit.
