80 of 82 listings were brought by banks, mortgage servicers or loan trustees; 1 by condominium or homeowners associations.
Most of the Bergen County listings we sampled (12 of 15) had already been pushed back at least once, which is why the date on the list is often not the final date. Homeowners can confirm the current date on the official list and review their options below.
Scheduled sales, not completed ones; the adjournment share comes from a small sample. The county's list is the authority for any single sale.

All Bergen County bidder rules →
Bergen is New Jersey's most populous county, and its foreclosure story is a volume-times-value story: even a moderate filing rate across 70 municipalities produces a steady stream of cases, and Bergen home values mean the equity at stake per case is among the highest in the state. A Bergen homeowner who loses a house carelessly frequently loses more money than a homeowner anywhere else in New Jersey would.
Bergen's conditions of sale spell out that a sheriff's deed does not guarantee clear title and that the buyer takes the property subject to unpaid taxes and liens of record. The owner may redeem within 10 calendar days of the sale, and the deed is not delivered until the buyer has paid in full.
Until the auction, and for the short redemption window after it, reinstating, selling the home or a Chapter 13 filing can still change the outcome. Never pay anyone to postpone it for you.

As of Oct 5, 2026, the next sale date on the official Bergen County list was Oct 16, 2026, and 46 listed sales were dated within the following 30 days. Individual dates move often, so confirm any specific sale on the official list.
What deposit does Bergen County require from bidders?
Deposit: 20% of the total bid price immediately at the time of sale (when the property is struck off). Accepted: Cash, certified funds, or cashier's checks; certified/cashier's check not dated more than 90 days before sale, payable to 'Bergen County Sheriff' or to the purchaser and endorsed to the Sheriff. Balance: Within 30 calendar days from the date of sale; default interest (post-judgment rate) if later. From the county's official sheriff pages as read on September 30, 2026; confirm with the sheriff's office before bidding.
How often are Bergen County sheriff sales postponed?
In our October 2026 sample of 15 Bergen County listings, 80% had been adjourned at least once, against 58% across all 16 counties in the report. It is a small sample, so treat it as a rough guide.
