185 of 186 listings were brought by banks, mortgage servicers or loan trustees; 1 by condominium or homeowners associations.
Most of the Essex County listings we sampled (8 of 15) had already been pushed back at least once, which is why the date on the list is often not the final date. Homeowners can confirm the current date on the official list and review their options below.
Scheduled sales, not completed ones; the adjournment share comes from a small sample. The county's list is the authority for any single sale.

Essex County runs sales every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. (except legal holidays) in the 14th-floor conference room of the Leroy F. Smith, Jr. Public Safety Building, 60 West Market Street in Newark. Registration is from 12:30 to 1:30, and bidders must show the 20% deposit check at registration: money order, certified or bank check only, no cash. After the plaintiff's $100 opening bid, bids rise in $1,000 steps.
From the county's official sheriff pages, read September 30, 2026. Terms change; confirm with the sheriff's office.

Essex County is the epicenter of New Jersey foreclosure and always has been. Newark, East Orange, and Irvington carry some of the heaviest filing volume in the state, which means the courts and the sheriff's foreclosure unit here run at industrial scale — and so does the predator economy that farms the public filing records. If any county's homeowners get buried in "we can save your home" mail the week after a complaint is filed, it is this one.
Essex's listings page gives defendants two 28-day statutory adjournments at $28 each and notes that, under an August 2025 court order, the CWPP right of first refusal belongs only to defendants, their next of kin or tenants. Essex's two sheriff pages disagree on some details, so confirm anything important with the office by phone.
Until the auction, and for the short redemption window after it, reinstating, selling the home or a Chapter 13 filing can still change the outcome. Never pay anyone to postpone it for you.
