Some of the Salem County listings we sampled (6 of 15) had already been pushed back at least once, so the date on the list is not always the final date. Homeowners can confirm the current date on the official list and review their options below.

Scheduled sales, not completed ones; the adjournment share comes from a small sample. The county's list is the authority for any single sale.

Foreclosure in Salem County: what's different here

Salem County is New Jersey's smallest docket: rural, riverfront, with the machinery in Salem City and cases scattered from Pennsville to Penns Grove. Low volume means less scam mail farming the records — and also the state's thinnest local infrastructure, so the statewide free layer (the counselor line, LSNJ's hotline, the court's mediation program) does the work that bigger counties' local nonprofits handle. Feeling like the only person in the county this is happening to is common here, and wrong.

If it's your home on the Salem County list

Salem is New Jersey's least populous county, so its sale list is short and each sale date carries only a few homes. The sheriff's office asks people to call on sale day to check status. Do the same before your date, and request any adjournment well ahead of it.

Until the auction, and for the short redemption window after it, reinstating, selling the home or a Chapter 13 filing can still change the outcome. Never pay anyone to postpone it for you.

When is the next Salem County sheriff sale?

As of Oct 5, 2026, the next sale date on the official Salem County list was Oct 19, 2026, and 13 listed sales were dated within the following 30 days. The sheriff's office says sales are held at 2:00 p.m. (arrive by 1:45 p.m. for fund verification), at New Salem County Courthouse, 92 Market Street, Salem, NJ 08079 (since May 19, 2025). Individual dates move often, so confirm any specific sale on the official list.

Deposit: 20% of the total bid price immediately after the close of the sale. Accepted: Certified checks payable to 'Sheriff of Salem County'; $1,000.00 cash limit. Balance: Within 10 calendar days of sale. From the county's official sheriff pages as read on September 30, 2026; confirm with the sheriff's office before bidding.

How often are Salem County sheriff sales postponed?

In our October 2026 sample of 15 Salem County listings, 40% had been adjourned at least once, against 58% across all 16 counties in the report. It is a small sample, so treat it as a rough guide.
