All Sussex County bidder rules →
Sussex County is the state's northwest corner: lake communities, commuter-fringe towns, and long distances between everything, with the courts in Newton. Its foreclosure cases skew rural-suburban — interruption defaults in long-commute households, lake-house seconds, and older homes whose condition questions belong in any workout or sale conversation. Local help is sparser than downstate, making the statewide free machinery and the online tools carry more of the load.
Because Sussex sells only once a month, an adjournment usually pushes a sale to the following month's sale day. Its page lists a 12-day redemption period after the sale, longer than the 10 days most counties state, and requires CWPP buyers to give the sheriff their documents 5 business days before the sale.
Until the auction, and for the short redemption window after it, reinstating, selling the home or a Chapter 13 filing can still change the outcome. Never pay anyone to postpone it for you.
Free statewide options that serve the county: NJ Courts Foreclosure Mediation Program, Legal Services of New Jersey, HUD-Approved Housing Counselors and Navicore Solutions. None of them pays us.

Balance: No later than 30 days after the sale; interest from the 13th day. From the county's official sheriff pages as read on September 30, 2026; confirm with the sheriff's office before bidding.
