85 of 88 listings were brought by banks, mortgage servicers or loan trustees; 1 by condominium or homeowners associations.
Most of the Union County listings we sampled (13 of 15) had already been pushed back at least once, which is why the date on the list is often not the final date. Homeowners can confirm the current date on the official list and review their options below.
Scheduled sales, not completed ones; the adjournment share comes from a small sample. The county's list is the authority for any single sale.

Union County sales moved to every other Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. starting May 6, 2026; before that they were weekly. Bidders check in at 1:00 p.m., and no one is admitted once sales begin. The minimum bid is $1,000, bids go up in multiples of $1,000, and the sheriff accepts no more than $500 in cash, so bring certified checks for 20% of the most you plan to bid.
From the county's official sheriff pages, read September 30, 2026. Terms change; confirm with the sheriff's office.

Union County packs dense, working-class towns — Elizabeth, Plainfield, Linden, Roselle, Hillside — into a small footprint, and its filing volume runs persistently high relative to its size. One genuinely local quirk worth knowing: Union County sheriff sales are not held in a courthouse at all. They are conducted at the Warinanco Ice Skating Center in Roselle, which surprises nearly everyone the first time.
Union gives defendants two 28-day adjournments at $28 each, plus one more if both sides agree, which is more than most counties spell out. With sales now every other week, each adjournment buys roughly two sale cycles.
Until the auction, and for the short redemption window after it, reinstating, selling the home or a Chapter 13 filing can still change the outcome. Never pay anyone to postpone it for you.
Free statewide options that serve the county: NJ Courts Foreclosure Mediation Program, Legal Services of New Jersey, HUD-Approved Housing Counselors and Navicore Solutions. None of them pays us.
